Waiting Game

My drumming my fingers on the kitchen counter waiting for the microwave to finish proves that patience does not come naturally. How about your waiting game in a pandemic quarantine? Easy? Hard?

Someone has defined patience as “a long obedience going in the same direction.” My obedience is to Jesus Christ. My culture is post-Christian. My temptations are not worse than saints in the 1st Century Church. What is different however is that temptations are only a mouse click or voice Google Search away. Failure to persevere in the faith has become common place. Consistent long-term obedience seems an impossible dream. Then the copout. Those who do reach for godly patience are counter-cultural. I’ve heard it said of them, “they are legalists” or dismissed as “irrelevant for today’s needs and issues.” Would you want to be known as one of those, an unconnected good guy?

Help! The godly nature of biblical obedience cannot shift with culture for the Word of God is the record of God speaking and he is the same yesterday, today, and forever. You must not shrink back from hardship because of righteousness sake. You should not even mind being ridiculed because you are the ‘good guy.’ If you are not willing to be misunderstood and vilified, you will not endure in any worthwhile cause. Labor much with the patience God gives you today. Each day he gives you what you need, ask. From start to finish, 2 Corinthians 1:6If we are afflicted, it is for your comfort and salvation; and if we are comforted, it is for your comfort, which you experience when you patiently endure the same sufferings that we suffer.

Perseverance is Christ’s call for you to follow him, to finish strong for God’s glory. There is no higher calling, no bigger privilege, no greater joy!

Psalm 46:1 God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. 2 Therefore we will not fear though the earth gives way, though the mountains be moved into the heart of the sea, 3 though its waters roar and foam, though the mountains tremble at its swelling….10 “Be still, and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!” 11 The Lord of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress. Selah

What you have in your tapping fingertips literally is not a waiting game on God. You have a cause. You have a cause that produces God’s patience in you.… a cause as in a personal and family decision to love Jesus more. And if your cause is not about Jesus as a Christian, then why is Jesus not your cause? Every day we are becoming someone – the question is, who?

Matthew 25:40 And the King will answer them, ‘Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me.’ – Jesus

Daniel 12:1“At that time shall arise Michael, the great prince who has charge of your people. And there shall be a time of trouble, such as never has been since there was a nation till that time. But at that time your people shall be delivered, everyone whose name shall be found written in the book. 2 And many of those who sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt. 3 And those who are wise shall shine like the brightness of the sky above; and those who turn many to righteousness, like the stars forever and ever.
