DEMAS demises… you may have followed these email/blogs on recent days you and will note that Demas did not just wake up one day and make a 90 degree turn. He drifted little by little into the always subpar attractions of this world (2 Timothy 4:6-18). When we fail to have communion with God, we will find ourselves also not able to weather the storms.
Please allow your love for God and his love for you be refreshed in your heart today;
Psalm 63:1 O God, you are my God; earnestly I seek you; my soul thirsts for you; my flesh faints for you, as in a dry and weary land where there is no water. 2 So I have looked upon you in the sanctuary, beholding your power and glory. 3 Because your steadfast love is better than life, my lips will praise you. 4 So I will bless you as long as I live; in your name I will lift up my hands.
Psalm 42:1 As a deer pants for flowing streams, so pants my soul for you, O God. 2 My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When shall I come and appear before God? 3 My tears have been my food day and night, while they say to me all the day long, “Where is your God?” 4 These things I remember, as I pour out my soul: how I would go with the throng and lead them in procession to the house of God with glad shouts and songs of praise, a multitude keeping festival.
Psalm 27:4 One thing have I asked of the Lord, that will I seek after: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to gaze upon the beauty of the Lord and to inquire in his temple.
As you read through the Psalms, you will notice that in most of them the psalmist is speaking to God or speaking about God. Sometimes the writer is rejoicing, sometimes he’s lamenting. He is interacting with God which is communion with God. Communion with God is far more helpful than approaching God with a grocery list of needs. In communion with God, God will give you your navigational fix. He will show you what course corrections you need to make in your life to keep you from drifting off course like Demas. In communion with God, he will also bless you with his confidence in making choices that are good and right and true.
And, remember this, you do not earn blessings from God because you have this time, nor do you forfeit God’s blessing on a day you miss it. God does not bless because you spend time with him, but he blesses you endlessly through that time.
Do not demand that God speak to you through his Word in dramatic fashion which does happen on occasion. I would rather be surprised when he does! That’s just me. But, God will, like with the navigational course corrections aboard a ship, make spiritual course corrections in our lives. They are usually incremental and not especially exaggerated. BUT EACH ONE IS NECESSARY. Please let me know what you think.
Psalm 16:1 Preserve me, O God, for in you I take refuge. 2 I say to the Lord, “You are my Lord; I have no good apart from you.” 3 As for the saints in the land, they are the excellent ones, in whom is all my delight. 4 The sorrows of those who run after another god shall multiply; their drink offerings of blood I will not pour out or take their names on my lips. 5 The Lord is my chosen portion and my cup; you hold my lot. 6 The lines have fallen for me in pleasant places; indeed, I have a beautiful inheritance. 7 I bless the Lord who gives me counsel; in the night also my heart instructs me. 8 I have set the Lord always before me; because he is at my right hand, I shall not be shaken. 9 Therefore my heart is glad, and my whole being rejoices; my flesh also dwells secure. 10 For you will not abandon my soul to Sheol, or let your holy one see corruption. 11 You make known to me the path of life; in your presence there is fullness of joy; at your right hand are pleasures forevermore.
Tomorrow’s blog, life is at the very least is often difficult, sometimes painful. Whatever comes our way we will stand firm in our belief in the sovereignty and love of God…
