Christian Life Chapel going forward. This present time is critical. In the weeks ahead we are going to make sure we do not go to sleep at the wheel. The hot topic in our country, “when do we open up (whatever)?” Some talk like, ‘never.’ Others talk like, ‘yesterday.’ In months ahead social and political agendas seek to befuddle us. Saneness may be misplaced until the next crisis. Feelings will rocket that we deserve things that were withheld from us while in quarantine. Generosity could be considered an empty shelf commodity haunted by the black and white sign, ‘limited to one per person.’
The lid on the cookie jar is coming off, nationwide. I’m ready! However, temptations are coming to spend unwise amounts of money. God may be placed back on the shelf. We may ache for quiet time. The church will need to double or triple down on our #1 cause; to love and share Jesus Christ more and more as the pandemic releases it’s grip on the world. With everyone else focused on getting back to work, getting life back to a new ‘normal,’ there is one guiding verse we will eat and breathe this week: Romans 13:11ff
Besides this you know the time, that the hour has come for you to wake from sleep. For salvation is nearer to us now than when we first believed. The night is far gone, the day is at hand. So then let us cast off the works of darkness and put on the armor of light.
Let us walk properly as in the daytime, not in orgies and drunkenness, not in sexual immorality and sensuality, not in quarrelling and jealousy. But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to gratify its desires. (ESV)
This [time] is all the more urgent, for you know how late it is; time is running out. Wake up, for our salvation is nearer now than when we first believed. The night is almost gone; the day of salvation will soon be here. So remove your dark deeds like dirty clothes, and put on the shining armor of right living.
Because we belong to the day, we must live decent lives for all to wee. Don’t participate in the darkness of wild parties and drunkenness, or in sexual promiscuity and immoral living, or in quarrelling and jealousy. Instead, clothe yourself with the presence of the Lord Jesus Christ. And don’t let yourself think about ways to indulge your evil desires. (NLT)
Let us make sure we do not get so absorbed and exhausted in taking care of all our day-by-day obligations that you loose track of the time and you doze off, oblivious to God first and foremost. The night is about over, dawn is about to break. Be up and awake to what God is doing!
God is putting his finishing touches on the salvation work he began when we first believed. We cannot afford to waste a minute, we must not squander these precious daylight hours in frivolity and indulgence, in sleeping around and dissipation, in bickering and grabbing everything in sight. Get out of bed and get dressed! Don’t loiter and linger, waiting until the very last minute. Dress yourselves in Christ, and be up and about! (Message)
